Axminster Care Service is a local charity, with an enthusiastic team of around 45 members, helping people registered, or in the area of Axminster Medical Practice, receive the support they need.

Via our framework, as set up in accordance with the Charity Commission, to fill the holes left by the Health and Social Services provision, our local volunteers provide those in need with a vast range of services. We hope to make life just that little bit easier when things get tough, whether that’s from age, disability, housing, or education difficulties. If you know of a family in need of support, please encourage them to contact us and we will talk them through how to apply for funding.

We sponsor a range of programmes at Axe Valley Community College, and Axminster Primary Academy, supporting the area’s youngsters in becoming the great achievers they aspire to be. Should their parents not be able to afford it, we would hate to see schoolchildren missing out, which is why we provide special grants to enable them to take part in educational trips, the supply of school clothing etc. With the addition of the Douglas Hull Dyslexia Fund, we are now able to support those within our local schools who need a little extra support and work with the schools to facilitate their needs in this area.

We also aid other local groups, such as local Churches, Nourish, Pippins Community Centre, Axminster Community Shed and many more, by providing funding for projects they are having trouble raising money for.

With a substantial contribution from ACS, the ARC (Bereavement Counselling) is now established at the Axminster Medical Practice. This is just one of the great things we are proud to have helped achieve.

We provide an efficient transport service too, which you can read about here.

ACS was fortunate to have been chosen by the late Douglas Hull to received a large bequest from which to support Dyslexia needs in our local schools, and in 2023 the Douglas Hull Dyslexia Fund was launched.

Our ACS leaflet, with all of the essential information about our local services and organisations, updated every two years, is available from our charity shop.

Axminster Care Service is largely funded by our Charity Shop, without which, a lot of our services wouldn’t be possible.

If you would like to know more about how Axminster Care Service can help you, or you would like to offer your support, don’t hesitate to get in touch, or if you’re feeling generous, why not make a donation.

Documentary

We shot a documentary about Axminster Care Service some years ago, which you can watch via the video player on the left. It's interesting to see how things have changed over the years!!
